Shard: The Mood Table

A Futuristic Geometric Design by Tsvetan Petkov

Introducing Shard, a revolutionary table design by Tsvetan Petkov that combines functionality, versatility, and a futuristic aesthetic. Inspired by the idea of creating a changeable table, Petkov's design features two identical triangular parts that can be assembled in different ways to create either a coffee table or a bar table.

The unique shape of Shard creates interesting triangular forms, perfect for holding magazines or books. Made from solid oak wood, the prototype showcases the strength and stability of the design. However, Shard can be made from any material that can be cut into this shape, such as MDF or Corian.

One of the challenges Petkov faced during the design process was finding the exact shape and right angles for the two parts to ensure a perfect fit. After numerous sketches and 3D modeling, he was able to achieve a seamless assembly without the need for any joints in the coffee table. For the bar table, Petkov has developed a secret tool, an invisible joint, to allow for easy and fast assembly and disassembly.

Shard is not only visually striking but also highly functional. It is designed for public spaces, cafes, and bars, where it can easily change the atmosphere of the interior depending on the event. The coffee table dimensions are 1020mm x 680mm x 440mm, while the bar table dimensions are 500mm x 630mm x 900mm. Both tables can be disassembled into six pieces and packed into a transport package measuring 1060mm x 540mm x 200mm.

The Shard design project was developed in Sofia, Bulgaria, and has received recognition for its outstanding innovation and expertise. In 2016, it was awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This award recognizes designs that demonstrate exceptional technical characteristics, artistic skill, and excellence, evoking positive emotions and wonder.
